Reaping What We Sow
Each of us has many eternal choices to make daily in our lives. It is written, “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19). Yahshua (Jesus) gave a lengthy parable regarding the “Son of Man” who planted “good seeds” (the righteous redeemed remnant) in His harvest field (the world) and right behind Him came the Evil One who sowed weeds (those who rebel against righteousness). Both will “grow together” side by side, even in the church system, until the “harvest at the end of the age”. Our Savior made it clear, that at the appointed time, the weeds (all who live for the self and its desires, including many superficial compromised Christians) are “thrown into the fire” but “the righteous (alive in the Spirit and dead to the flesh) will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father” (See Matthew 13:24-30,37-43). “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
Yahshua (Jesus) also spoke the parable of the sower and likened our lives to soil into which the seed (His word) is planted. In this parable we see that it is only a small remnant, only one fourth, who are the “good soil”. They “understand the word” and are diligent caretakers of the seed (truth) that was sown and they keep it cultivated so that it will continue to grow and produce a harvest of righteousness; “thirty, sixty, and one hundred fold”. The other three fourths are the many who are self indulgent, preoccupied with earthy cares, and the deceitfulness of worldly gain. Satan is continually deceiving and enticing multitudes to take their focus off the things above and make their treasures the things of this world, his domain, which leads to “idolatry”. An idol is anyone or anything that robs our God and Savior of the wholehearted love, obedience, and worship that is due to Him alone (see Matthew 13:18-23). Most people self justify their cravings, desires, and lusts for this world. They do not know what is written, the Holy Spirit says, “That which is highly esteemed among men is detestable, an abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15). Apostle Paul made it clear about our squandered affections, “Do not be deceived …” “For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous [person], who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Messiah and God” (1Corinthians 6:9, Ephesians 5:5).
“The flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” (Galatians 5:17). We are to vigilantly keep watch over our unruly self nature with all it’s passions and endless desires and distractions or the Evil One will continue to sow his seeds into our hearts that will grow and multiply. Eventually and inevitably, the bad seeds (the weeds) will choke out and overtake the good seeds and the Enemy’s harvest of flesh, rebellion, and sin will flourish rather than the Holy Spirit’s harvest of loving obedience leading to righteousness. Satan is continually planting his seeds and harvesting his evil fruit in and through people’s hearts and lives. The consequence of sin is curses and death. These familiar spirits of the sin nature continue through our family lineage leaving a legacy of inherited seeds of darkness that produces a harvest of rotten fruit from generation to generation, until they are repented for and covered in our Savior’s atoning blood. The Holy One made this very clear, “I, Yahveh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the grandchildren to the third and the fourth generation” (See Exodus 34:7, Exodus 20:5, Deuteronomy 5:9, Deuteronomy 27:15-26).
In the Scripture we read, “cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” (Galatians 3:13) Yahshua (Jesus) took our place and “hung on the tree” (the cross) bearing our sin nature and all of its consequential curses. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). We have been freed from our sin nature and its curses but this is not freedom to continue to sin. Yahveh God forbid! We are to uphold His precious blood by walking in the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul writes, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). May we “never take lightly such a great salvation” and deliverance. We must “make every effort” to produce a bountiful harvest that bears righteous fruit for His glory that lasts eternally. Our present decisions and actions are the seeds that are planted, we must consider others, starting with our family members, as “more important than ourselves” so that our choices are wisely made by the Spirit, bearing a good harvest that glorifies our Father and blesses our family and everyone we meet (Philippians 2:3).
It is important to understand that the choices we make and the fruit of our choices are like seeds that are sown in our lives, in our children, and their lineage. There are two kinds of seeds and two sources, good seeds from our Savior or bad seeds from Satan. Evil seeds of the sin nature are intricately woven into the DNA of our fallen human nature; expressed through the self and its rebellious will and sinful desires. Sin entered through our forefathers Adam and Eve and will continue to multiply throughout the harvest field of humanity until Yahshua (Jesus) the “King of kings” returns and destroys Satan, his demons, and all sin and sinners.
