Choose Life
“See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity [destruction]; in that I command you today to love Yahveh your Elohim (God), to walk in His ways and keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahveh your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it” (Deuteronomy 30:15-16).
He will bless and bring you into the Promised Land. That is why He says in Deuteronomy 4:4, “But you who held fast [clung] to Yahveh your God are alive today, every one of you.” Those who cling to Him will be alive eternally. Cling and obey. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse…” (Deuteronomy 30:19). When the Holy One proclaimed it in Deuteronomy 4:26, He said in essence, “I have called heaven and earth against you as witnesses, so if you do not obey Me, I am going to utterly destroy you.” He said, “You will not go into the Promised Land with Me.” But now He is essentially saying, “I call heaven and earth on this issue, I set before each and every one of you, life and death, blessings and curses, now choose.”
Heaven and earth are witnesses. They are going to be watching you to see what you are going to choose daily, hourly, and moment by moment. Are you going to choose His way that leads to eternal life? Are you going to choose the blessings that come because you “hunger and thirst for righteousness” (Matthew 5:6), and He blesses you with righteousness? Or are you going to choose death and destruction?
“…So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants [children]” (Deuteronomy 30:19).
